The festivities of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres 2022 are scheduled from 20 to 26 May. The Image Change Saturday will be on the 21st of May and the Sunday of the great Procession on the 22nd of May.
Program:
Thursday, May 19th:
18:00 – Preparatory Triduum, at the Sanctuary of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres, with preaching by Father Dr. Francisco Ruivo.
Friday, May 20th:
08:00 – Mass at the Sanctuary of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres.
09:00 – Mass at the Sanctuary of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres,
11:00 – Mass for the Sick at St. Joseph’s Church. Start of the Parties
21:00 – Departure of the Image of the Sanctuary to the churchyard, staying until 00:00, with Inauguration of the decorative lighting on the facade of the Sanctuary of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres, with the performance of the Hymn of Senhor Santo Cristo, followed by the Charanga dos Firefighters parade Volunteers from Ponta Delgada, after which the Te Deum will be performed by Grupo Coral de S. José.
22:00 – Departure from the Image of the Sanctuary to the Church of São José. Bazaar opening.
22:15 – Band Triumph Concert.
Saturday, May 21st:
00:00 – Mass in São José, after the Mass follows the beginning of the Vigil in honor of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres.
08:00 – Mass at St. Joseph’s Church. Followed by the Image Change to the Sanctuary’s churchyard.
13:00 – Collection of the Image of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres (Sanctuary).
16:30 – Field Procession, passing in front of the Guard of Honor provided by an Army company and Banda da Zona Militar dos Açores (16:45), with salvo by a Navy corvette and flyover by an Air Force aircraft. (The path of Changing the Image will follow the direction of recent years: N-S, E-W, S-N and W-E streets of Campo de S. Francisco).
17:45 – Sermon by His Eminence, Cardinal José Tolentino Mendonça. After the sermon the Image is in the churchyard.
22:00 – Change of the image to the Church of S. José.
22:15 – Concert by the Ponta Delgada Regional Conservatory.
Sunday, May 22nd:
00:00 – Mass in S. José, after the Mass there is the beginning of the Vigil in honor of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres.
06:00 – Dawn with mortar salvo Pilgrims’ Mass
09:15 – Departure from the Image of the Church of São José to the churchyard of the Sanctuary
09:30 – Solemn Eucharistic Concelebration, in the Churchyard, with the presence of the Image of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres, presided over by His Eminence, Cardinal D. José Tolentino Mendonça
15:30 – Departure from the Procession Guide that will follow the usual route.
16:30 – Departure from the image of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres. Collection of the Image after the end of the procession.
22:15 – Concert by Banda Harmonia Mosteirense. Bazaar opening
Monday, May 23 (Municipal Holiday):
11:00 – Eucharistic Concelebration applied for the intentions of the Table of the Brotherhood and its collaborators.
15:00 – Auction. Bazaar opening.
Thursday, May 26th:
17:00 – Opening of the Bazaar
18:00 – Closing of the religious festivities of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres – Solemn Concelebration, presided over by the Rector of the Sanctuary, Canon Adriano Borges.
